This is a cool concept…ice cream-to-order, made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Smitten Ice Cream just hit LA and founder Robyn Sue Fisher, is here with the machine she invented to create the tasty treat.
Smitten Ice Cream is the mega popular San Francisco-based ice cream shop with five locations around the Bay Area and more on the way this year. Last month they made their much-anticipated LA debut in El Segundo at The Point and will be opening a second LA location in Silver Lake this summer.
One of the coolest things about Smitten is that they make all of their ice creams to-order right in front of your eyes and they use only super fresh, locally sourced ingredients. All ingredients and toppings are either house-made or sourced from a top quality local food purveyor like TCHO chocolates. They focus on serving 6 flavors at a time so they can ensure the best quality, with everything from the classic Vanilla and Chocolate flavors to fun, seasonal flavors like Blood Orange with Pistachio Cookies and Mint Chip. You can also get creative sundaes with house-made toppings like Strawberry Prosecco Sauce, Spicy Caramel and TCHO Chocolate Crispies.
Smitten ice creams are unique in that they are made using the one-of-a-kind patented Brrr™ ice cream machine, which founder Robyn Sue Fisher invented in her own garage. The machine will transform all of the fresh ingredients into the smoothest, creamiest ice cream in just minutes.
Before she was able to open her first brick-and-mortar shop, Robyn got creative and started wheeling her battery-powered Brrr™ machine around the streets of San Francisco on top of a Radio Flyer® wagon in order to sell her ice creams. She would let her fans know of her next stop via Twitter.

About Robyn Sue Fisher
A Stanford University MBA graduate, Robyn – whose mother always told her she had two stomachs with one solely reserved for ice cream – turned away from a career in the corporate world to follow her childhood dreams of ice cream. Unhappy with just how “far from the cow” ice cream production had come, Robyn set out to bring ice cream back to its purest, all natural form. She spent several years and her life’s savings into inventing Brr™, her patented individual batch ice cream churner that uses liquid nitrogen to transform fresh ingredients into the smoothest, creamiest and purest ice cream.
In late 2009, Robyn put the Smitten brand on the map in San Francisco. Undeterred by a lack of funds or a nationwide recession, Robyn got scrappy and began wheeling her battery-powered Brrr™ machine around the streets of San Francisco atop a Radio Flyer® wagon, letting her fans know of her next stop via Twitter. Soon, San Francisco foodies began lining up for her creamy bespoke ice cream. Smitten quickly developed a loyal following and a reputation as one of the area’s hidden epicurean secrets.
Robyn opened San Francisco’s first made-to-order ice cream shop in Hayes Valley in 2011. Her innovation and success has been featured in many publications and outlets including Forbes, Vogue, The New York Times, Wired, Time Magazine, and Food & Wine.
In just a few short and busy years, Robyn has expanded Smitten to five locations across the Bay Area and one location in Los Angeles, with more locations opening in both cities in 2016.
