PACOIMA, Calif. (FOX 11) - Mariachi music goes back some 200 years. It's a tradition that is passed down from generation to generation. In Pacoima, mariachis start at a very young age.
Haddon Elementary school offers a mariachi class as an elective.
Students must have good grades to get in. And there is a long waiting list.
Richard Ramos, the school principal says, "One of the benefits that we’ve seen, is that the students that are participating, are doing better in class and that’s significant for me as a principal because we want our kids to do better."
For more information on this program, take a look at the video and enjoy the music.
