Chris Salgardo, President of cult-favorite skin-care line Kiehl’s, delivers the definitive guide to grooming every man needs—and was afraid to ask for.
Manmade is the first grooming and skin-care guide created with a 21st-century man in mind. Rather than dispense one-size-fits-all advice, Chris Salgardo tailors his guidance to a man’s lifestyle and interest level, devoting chapters to the specific grooming needs of the polished gentleman; the extreme sports enthusiast; the bad boy/rebel; the artistic renaissance man; and the DIY hipster. From battling the effects of aging to hair concerns–whether too much or not enough–Chris offers insiders’ secrets for looking impeccably (but not obviously) groomed.
Chris Salgardo is a long-time beauty and skincare executive who has worked for Chanel Inc., Estée Lauder Companies and L’Oréal USA. Salgardo has a never-ending curiosity about grooming, skincare and how to put your best face forward.

DULL STRAIGHT RAZOR OR DISPOSABLE BLADES?
Sharpen a razor with disposable blades by pushing along the grain of denim.
RUN OUT OF SHAVING CREAM?
Try using hair conditioner or body lotion to smooth the shave. Don’t use bar soap, as it will dry the skin and increase the likelihood of razor burn or nicks. A steaming hot facecloth held against the skin for three minutes prior to the improvised shave will also make the job easier.
Hold the wild ones in place with a dab of lip balm until you can properly remove those mother-pluckers.
OILY SKIN AND NO TIME TO WASH UP?
Blot your face with tissues: Press for three seconds to remove excess oil from your T-zone. Don’t rub, though, as rough fibers can damage and redden skin, and bits of the paper can get caught on your whiskers.
SHOES DESPERATE FOR A POLISH?
Try rubbing the leather with the outside of a banana peel.
