Union and Fifth Fashion Show for charity

Why buy a knock-off when you can afford an original?  And while you’re at it, why not benefit a meaningful charity as you shop?

Since its initial launch a half-year ago, Union & Fifth has woven fashion with philanthropy as the first-and-only nonprofit designer resale site.

Its mission to offer affordable haute couture with a heart is captured in its slogan, “Shop for Good,” with 75% of each sale price given to the charity selected by each donor, who receives 100% of the tax write-off.  For charities, donors and shoppers alike, it’s more than a fashionable idea.

Launched by sisters-in-law Pamela Trefler and Christena Reinhard, Union & Fifth is designed as a fundraising platform that allows donors to help nonprofits of their choosing, from national charities to local and regional organizations such as schools.

Beneficiaries include Autism Speaks, Avon Products Foundation, Corazon De Vida Foundation, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Global Green USA, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation-LA, Little Kids Rock, Race to Erase MS, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Year Up, and such academic institutions as University of Massachusetts Boston and University of San Francisco, reflecting the home cities of the site’s co-founders, Pamela Trefler and Christena Reinhard.
