Recipe: Caramelized shrimp with onions and chili sauce

Everything I am or hope to be is because of amazing family, friends and mentors.

That's why helping to co-host the Taste of Summer to benefit the Fulfillment Fund, an organization that believes in the power of mentoring, is a no-brainer.

Combine that with some of the best food in Los Angeles -- and we feed your soul, heart and stomach!

Chef Perry of Phorage, a high-end Vietnamese restaurant, joined us Tuesday on Good Day LA to preview the event by making some delicious caramelized shrimp.

Recipe: Caramelized Shrimp with onions and chili sauce

2 tbsp of canola oil
8 pieces of black tiger prawns
1/2 tsp of chopped garlic
1/2 cup of white sliced white onions
1/4 cup of caramel sauce (1 cup of fish sauce 1 cup of sugar)
1 tsp chili paste
1 handful of green onions

Heat canola oil in saute pan with high heat
Carefully place shrimp into oil and cook for 30 seconds
Add garlic and white onions saute for another 30 seconds
Add caramel sauce and reduce
Place desired amount of chili sauce
Finish with a handful of fresh green onions

More about the Fulfillment Fund:

Empowers students through education, transforming individual lives, and creating a ripple effect through the entire community.

Through classroom instruction, mentoring, one-on-one college counseling and experiential learning opportunities, the organization opens young people's eyes to the possibility of higher education, and change their beliefs about what they are capable of achieving.

Its mission is to make college a reality for students growing up in educationally and economically under-resourced communities.
