LOS ANGELES, CA (FOX 11) - Marcus Kowal was on top of the world as a professional MMA fighter, happily married with a beautiful son, until September 2016 when tragedy struck. His son Liam was only 15 months old when he was killed by a drunk driver during a walk in a stroller. A 72-year-old woman suspected of driving drunk crashed into Liam's stroller.
Soon after, they joined us on Good Day LA with the decision to create something positive from such a tragic accident. Thus Liam's Life Foundation began, which is dedicated to changing the culture surrounding drunk driving and to promote organ donation.
They returned in August 2017 to our Good Day LA studios with their beautiful newborn baby, Nico.
Now, Marcus, Mishel brought their son Nico back and they have written a new memoir, "Life is a Moment," about his family's darkest days and how they are honoring Liam's legacy.
Part of their story is their journey with their son, Liam. Michel says, "We take it a day at a time, and we have an incredible support system around us. We have a mission to honor Liam and to save lives. He put us on a trajectory we can't stop."
Marcus, says the anger both of them have is with society, and how it's so allowed in the United States when it comes to DUI's. They're working with Liam's Life Foundation to lower the blood alcohol content from .08 to .04.
