LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - Having a soda with your burger? Dr. Sonu Ahluwalia joined us Wednesday on Good Day LA to speak about a new study that found drinking a sugar-sweetened beverage with a high-protein meal increases the likelihood that you will store the fat instead of burning it.
Ahluwalia also discussed another new study related to brain disease in professional football, which found that nearly every deceased former NFL player who donated their brain for research suffered from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy or CTE.
CTE is caused by repeated blows to the head or repetitive brain trauma.
Although the disease can be diagnosed only after death, doctors say many of the symptoms, such as impaired judgment, aggression, depression and sometimes suicidal behavior, are treatable and preventable.
