Abby Lee Miller, who just finished her fifth season of ’Dance Moms’ often finds unique ways to get the best performances from her students.

In 2011, Miller began to appear in the Lifetime reality television show Dance Moms. Dance Moms is on its fifth season and has had 138 episodes so far. The show follows young students at the Abby Lee Dance Company in their pursuit to become better dancers. In the show, Miller uses the technique of training new dancers to compete against her former students, to motivate them to become better dancers themselves. In the show, Miller frequently interacts belligerently with the young dancers and their mothers. In February 2014, Abby Lee Miller was sued by the Hyland family for allegedly bullying Paige Hyland, a former student of Abby Lee Miller and a cast member on the reality TV show Dance Moms. This five million dollar lawsuit was filed against Abby Lee Miller and Collins Avenue Entertainment, for staging the disagreements that ended in a fight between Kelly Hyland and Abby Lee Miller. Paige Hyland also filed an emotional distress lawsuit against the owner of Abby Lee Dance Company, Abby Lee Miller. However, the chargers were dropped on the emotional distress lawsuit, because the judge sided with Abby Lee Miller.
Three of the spin-offs of Dance Moms are Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition, which ran for 2 seasons and 22 episodes, Dance Moms: Miami, and Dance Moms: Abby's Studio Rescue. This show ran for only 7 episodes. Miller has also been a guest judge on Dancing with the Stars (U.S. season 18).
Miller published a book, Everything I Learned about Life, I Learned in Dance Class.
In 2015, Miller opened a new studio set up in LA called ALDC LA. The cast of Dance Moms move to LA and are currently competing there too.
