LA Mayor Eric Garcetti discusses 'Get Out The Vote'

Early voting began over the weekend and the turnout has been big. The interest in the presidential race is high. So far in LA County, the registrar's office said it issued more than 17,000 ballots.

The presidential race isn't the only thing driving the voters to the polls.

Here to talk about "Getting Out The Vote" is L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti. Among some of the topics in Wednesday's discussion with Steve Edwards and Araksya Karapetyan included:

  • The D.A.'s office is looking into an LA Times investigation which found donors with ties to developer Samuel Leung, who contributed a total of $600,000 dollars to local politicians. The donations were made while Leung was trying to secure approval for a 72-million dollar apartment complex. The project is known as ‘Sea Breeze’ in Torrance. The project was initially objected - but Mayor Garcetti saved it.
  • Measure ‘M’ would raise county's sales tax by half cent to 9.5% to continue expanding its light rail network -- adding more trains, buses, and carpool lanes.
  • Critics say they don't want to pay higher taxes for something they don't think will benefit them.
  • Proposition HHH would raise property taxes in order to issue a bond for $1.2 billion dollars to help the homeless in the city of Los Angeles. Critics say the measure doesn't address mental illness and substance abuse services needed.
