Jamie Court & Kathy Fairbanks: Proposition 61

One measure on the ballot being closely watched is ‘Proposition 61.’ It's about prescription drug prices, and was designed to stop price gouging.

Senator Bernie Sanders is backing the ‘yes’ vote, but some veterans groups are against the measure.

Proposition 61 affects a few state agencies. It won't apply to people with private insurance, covered California, or Medicare, but it could save the state money when buying drugs for about 5-million people.

We had Jamie Court, the president of Consumer Watchdog and Kathy Fairbanks from the ‘No On Prop 61’ campaign.

Yes on 61 argument:

  • Would fight price-gouging from drug companies.
  • Would provide better access to live-saving drugs.
  • Would save taxpayers billions of dollars in healthcare costs.
  • Would provide transparency in drug pricing.

No on 61 argument:

  • Would hurt veterans.
  • Would not apply to 88%.
  • More bureaucracy to get approvals.
  • Would increase state prescription drug costs.
