Fred Willard is hosting the 9th Annual International Myeloma Foundation's Ninth Annual Comedy Celebration. Here’s a look at Ray Romano and Doris Roberts from last year's show.
The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) will hold its 9th Annual Comedy Celebration on Saturday, October 10th at The Wilshire Ebell Theatre. Proceeds from the IMF 9th Annual Comedy Celebration will benefit the Peter Boyle Research Fund and support the Black Swan Research Initiative® (BSRI). Renowned actor Peter Boyle died in late 2006 after a four year battle with myeloma, an incurable cancer of the bone marrow and one of the fastest growing blood cancers in the world. Through laughter, the event honors Boyle and raises money for research to find a cure.
Two years ago, the International Myeloma Foundation launched the Black Swan Research Initiative (BSRI), a bold approach to finding a cure for myeloma by detecting and eradicating every trace of the disease in every patient. Bringing together top researchers from around the globe, BSRI’s goal is to develop a cure for myeloma by using an ultra-sensitive diagnostic test combined with the most potent new therapies. Through the support of the Peter Boyle Research Fund, this initiative has made major breakthroughs in a very short period of time. By the end of 2015, the IMF will be launching “Cure Trials” – clinical trials that will treat patients with the best available therapies and will assess the efficacy of the BSRI approach to finding a cure. The multinational experts that comprise the BSRI research team are confident that we are very close to a definitive cure for multiple myeloma.
The International Myeloma Foundation 9th Annual Comedy Celebration will be in memory of Michael S. Katz, a longtime member of the IMF Board of Directors who passed away in April 2015. Diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 1990, Katz worked as a volunteer for the IMF since 1993 and help brought myeloma patient advocacy to the forefront. For 25 years, he worked as a patient advocate across a broad spectrum of cancers, serving as Chair of the Patient Representa¬tives Committee at the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), Chair of the NCI’s Director’s Consumer Liaison Group, a Patient Consultant for the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and on the Association of Cancer Online Resources (ACOR). In 2014, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) recognized Katz with the 2014 Partners in Progress Award for his exceptional achievements, outstanding work, and dedication as a myeloma advocate.
The International Myeloma Foundation 9th Annual Comedy Celebration will be presented by Amgen, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Celgene, and Millennium: the Takeda Oncology Company.
