LOS ANGELES (FOX 11) - Merle Dandridge, who has performed in several Broadway musicals, now stars in the OWN megachurch drama "Greenleaf."
The series follows the Greenleaf family with scandalous secrets and lies -- as well as their sprawling Memphis megachurch.
Dandridge plays the protagonist, Grace Greenleaf, an estranged daughter who has returned home after 20 years following the mysterious death of her sister.
She's joined by other veteran actors, including Keith David and Lynn Whitfield, to which she described as helpful.
"It was a little intimidating because I had great actors, unbelievable people that I’d been watching forever," she said on doing some of the first scenes.
"You don’t even have to act, all you have to do is take it in and (Keith David) just seeps into your heart," she added. "He’s a good human being, he’s an extraordinary artist and he was also there just as a mentor when I maybe didn’t know what to do technically on something."
This is Dandridge's first time being the lead on a television series – and Oprah handpicked her!
Oprah also plays Mavis McCready on the show, Grace Greenleaf's auntie.
