It was once said that many a good chefs started with a pizza…and this week on Wednesday’s Child we sneak a peek at sister-brother duo Priscilla (2009) and Bryan (2010) as they play “chefs-for-a-day” at Blaze Pizza in Pasadena!
And even though these two were up early enough to make donuts instead, one whiff of fresh pizza ingredients had these two ready to “apron-up” and learn what it takes and what is “kneaded” to produce delicious pizzas.
Priscilla and Bryan received some ‘hands-on’ guidance and tips from the staff at Blaze Pizza. When it came to toppings, Priscilla knew what she wanted even before they got started – and following the philosophy that a pizza can be like the entire food pyramid, she exclaimed she wanted “‘everything on it”. Bryan, on the other hand, was more selective and after seeing all of the toppings that were available to him, he decided to go ‘al gusto’ with his all-time favorite – pepperoni!
As Priscilla and Bryan worked their way down the assembly line and prepared their own pizzas, they started to realize there is a process to making each pizza and with that realization came a lot of questions as to how the staff at Blaze Pizza keep up with the constant orders for different pizzas day in and day out. Priscilla and Bryan watched as the pizzas they created made their way into the oven, asking with anticipation as to how long it would take for their pizzas to be ready to eat. Once the pizzas were done baking, Bryan was the first one to sit down and enjoy the pizza he made with his own hands. When asked how his pizza had turned out, Bryan boasted, “excellent!” Not to be outdone by Bryan, Priscilla quickly replied, “Mine is better because it has a lot of toppings.”
Temporarily full from pizza and walking out with Blaze tee-shirts, caps and their “pizza-chefs-for-the-day” name tags, Priscilla and Bryan were happy campers who enjoyed their all-too-fast but fun time at Blaze Pizza. We are seeking a more permanent home where these two can join in on the food, the fun, the conversations and even the responsibilities that are often had around the family table.
