As America prepares for the possibility of a female president, we look at women who have already broken through the glass ceiling which has limited women from holding public office.
With that in mind, Sunday's guest is Nury Martínez, the member of the Los Angeles City Council representing Council District 6 which includes Van Nuys, Sun Valley and many other communities in the San Fernando Valley.
Ms. Martínez has several distinctions: She is the only female member of the Los Angeles City Council; she is only the 15th woman to serve on the council in the city's history; she is the only woman holding an elected office in the City of Los Angeles, and she is the first Latina elected to the council in 25 years.
Among the most important projects in Ms. Martínez's district are human trafficking and homelessness.
Prior to joining the Los Angeles City Council, Ms. Martínez was a member of the Los Angeles Unified School District's Board of Education.
