(FOX 11) - There is a $50,000 reward for the men who murdered David Morales.
At about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, David and a friend were walking north on Sawtelle Boulevard toward Pico Boulevard to get something to eat. As they approached Pearl Street, two young Hispanic men walked up to them and asked where they were from.
That question is usually the prelude to a gang shooting.
Before David and his friend could answer, the men started shooting. David, who had no gang connection and no police record, died at the scene. He was 18-years-old and a recent graduate of University High School.
His friend was also shot but his wounds were superficial.
David's mother believes that people living in the neighborhood as well as drivers on Sawtelle Boulevard have important information that could lead to the identification and the arrest of her son's killers.
She acknowledges that they may be afraid to get involved, even though police and prosecutors have several ways to protect witnesses.
