Compton rapper YG returns for the holidays

- With Christmas just around the corner, rapper YG is getting ready to do some community gift-giving. It's all part of his 4Hundred Waze Foundation. YG still has ties to the streets, but in a major turn-around he's working with Compton's mayor to be of service.

YG has a new record in the works. He's one of the hottest young rappers on the scene. He already has songs with Drake, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj. With such rap royalty YG went from the streets to stardom.

Getting a record deal changed his life. He'd just been released from jail on a burglary charge. YG makes no secret about his gang ties. He raps about his "homies." YG is also making changes to be of service to the community he called home. YG was born in Compton and also lived in Inglewood.

Five years after that record deal he returned to Compton as a VIP.  Over the Thanksgiving holiday he and Mayor Aja Brown hosted dinner for more than 500 people at the brand new community center.  YG personally passed out hot plates. His mom, Mama YG did the cooking and catering.

Mama YG, Shonee Jackson, says she never would have believed all this could happen. She's a strong advocate for her son to make good. She looks at Snoop as an example of a rapper who can rise above the streets.

Through their 4Hundred Waze Foundation there are big plans to give back. YG's perspective comes from the streets. He says the way to steer kids away from gangs is to give them opportunities and activies.

YG and his foundation also passed out backpacks and performed at his foundation's back to school give-away.

The 25-year old has been back in the studio working on a follow-up to his My Krazy Life record. Earlier this year he was shot at a music studio. YG says his new record will reflect what happens in his daily life. It's titled Still Krazy.
