Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus reveals breast cancer diagnosis

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - Emmy-winning actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus revealed on Thursday that she's been diagnosed with breast cancer.

In a post on her Twitter page, the "Veep'' and "Seinfeld'' actress wrote, "1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I'm the one.''

"The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union,'' she wrote. "The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let's fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.''

She did not provide further details of the diagnosis.

Earlier this month, the 56-year-old actress won a record-setting sixth consecutive Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for her work on HBO's "Veep.'' She has won a total of 11 Emmys in her career, including a lead actress honor for "The New Adventures of Old Christine'' and a supporting actress prize for "Seinfeld.''

The New York native has been married to actor/writer/director Brad Hall since 1987.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Louis-Dreyfus received the diagnosis on Sept. 18, the day after she won her latest Emmy Award and "Veep'' was honored as television's best comedy series for the third straight year.

HBO had previously announced that "Veep'' will end after the upcoming seventh season.

"Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time,'' according to a statement from HBO. We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to
her return to health and to HBO for the final season of 'Veep.'''

Louis-Dreyfus' co-star, Tony Hale, posted on his Twitter page, "We love this woman.''

"Veep'' creator Armando Iannucci also weighed in. "It is possible to be dignified and fierce at the same time,'' he wrote on Twitter. "I and millions (of) others send Julia our love and support.''
