In 1979, during an episode of Cavett's lively PBS interview, Mary McCarthy, the venerable critic and writer, called fellow literary titan Lillian Hellman "dishonest," famously elaborating that "every word she writes is a lie, including 'and' and 'the.'" Hellman later sued, igniting a firestorm that swept the literary world and sparked this witty play by Brian Richard Mori.

Hellman v. McCarthy is playing Feb. 6-28 at Theatre40 and at the Saban Theatre March 1. The plays is directed by television veteran Howard Storm who has over 50 episodes of Mork and Mindy to his credit along with many, many other television credits.
