She is a 5-year-old Beagle mix who was found abandoned in a plastic tub in a South Central neighborhood, suffering from large wounds on her back legs and paws and some spinal trauma that left her hind legs paralyzed. She was brought to South Los Angeles Animal Shelter to be put to sleep, but quickly changed the minds of her caretakers. They were taken with her sweet, loving and stoic nature- Dazzle never fussed about her injuries, held her head up high and greeted all people and other dogs who came up to her cage with respect and a wagging tail.
Touched by her strong will, a volunteer got permission to work with Dazzle and moved her from her cage to a cart, then wheeled her outside. She gently placed her on the lawn and Dazzle was so happy she took off, dragging herself across the grass ready to play. Yep, you guessed it, she DAZZLED her caretakers with her big open heart and indomitable spirit. South Los Angeles Animal Shelter contacted Santa Monica's Much Love Animal Rescue who quickly stepped up with volunteers to foster Dazzle while they work diligently to find her the wonderful forever home she deserves. You can see videos and photos of this one-of-a-kind little lady HERE.
What Dazzle requires in extra attention, she makes up for in kindness. She's perfectly content being at someone's side 24/7, and would make a great therapy dog for an individual and/or family that needs healing in some way; for instance, a family with a special needs child, or an elderly facility or rehab facility where patients would find petting a dog very therapeutic. Dazzle has a doggie wheelchair and loves to go on walks. She loves socializing with people, other dogs and even cats! Her special needs include in-home physical therapy, pain meds and the ability to lift her up at 25 pounds. And, like all dogs, Dazzle needs a fixed routine so she can do her duty outside.
I think that telling Dazzle's story on FOX 11 Pet Project will help find her beat the odds and find a happy forever home. Please let me know if you're interested. I'm more than happy to put you in touch with Much Love Animal Rescue and Dazzle's fosters and fans for their insights, including the volunteer from South Central who wrote the heartwarming email plea that saved her life. A fund has been established by Much Love Animal Rescue to contribute to Dazzle's care:
