LOS ANGELES (AP) - Southern California is getting doused by scattered showers accompanying a chilly spring storm that is also dropping snow in the mountains.

Commuters are urged to drive with caution Friday morning following several overnight crashes on slick freeways in Los Angeles County.

The low-pressure system moved south into the region late Thursday after bringing gusty winds to the San Joaquin Valley and deserts, and snow to the Sierra Nevada.

The National Weather Service says while some areas may see no precipitation, others could experience heavy downpours. Officials are watching for mud and debris flows in foothill areas made bare by wildfires.

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain in the 60s.

Forecasters say the cold and unstable air mass might linger in the region into Saturday.
