Lots of Clippers fans are not happy they won't be seeing this anymore...
For three seasons the former UCLA star was the blue collar guy for the Clippers - the bruiser, the guy who would get you the tough basket…the big rebound. The guy who would always jump in the middle of the action to protect his teammates, Matt was traded back to the team he started with, the Memphis Grizzlies. But he is not gone yet because this weekend at Palisades Charter School; he holds the 8th annual Matt Barnes Basketball Camp.
California native and NBA small forward Matt Barnes will host his annual basketball camp August 7-9 for boys and girls ages 6-14 at Palisades Charter High School.
The camp is designed to help players at all levels improve their basketball skills and understand the game’s techniques, giving each participant the opportunity to grow and develop as an individual and as a team player. Campers participate in daily shooting and dribbling drills, teamwork exercises, 5-on-5 games, and strategic skills sessions, while practicing great sportsmanship, character and fair play.
Last year, the camp hosted 170 kids and Barnes was joined by NBA superstars Blake Griffin, Baron Davis, Jamal Crawford, Jelani McCoy, Ray Young, Ekep Udoh and more.
Barnes currently plays small forward for the Memphis Grizzles. As an integral part of what many called the most talent starting lineup in the NBA, Matt was recently a part of an extraordinary Clipper squad that broke a franchise record for most consecutive wins in December 2012, and finished the regular season in 2013 and 2014 as the NBA Pacific Division Champions.
In 2008, after losing his mother suddenly to cancer, Barnes launched Athletes vs. Cancer worldwide, teaming up with professional athletes and celebrities that shared his goal to educate and bring awareness to communities across the nation, and to motivate people to get regular cancer screenings. Athletes vs. Cancer provides support and resources for individuals and families affected by pediatric cancer.
The Matt Barnes Basketball Camp is dedicated to the development of our youth community through the sport of basketball. It is our mission to promote and provide the practice of good sportsmanship and encourage the spirit to succeed. Our primary focus is to give each camper a chance to maximize their strengths in basketball and their success on and off the court.
