Dennis Haysbert is on the new FOX series ‘Backstrom.' He plays a detective working with an eccentric colleague played by Rainn Wilson. In the interview with Steve and Lisa, Dennis explains why he doesn't want to slow down in his career.
Dennis Haysbert captured the attention of audiences and critics alike with his groundbreaking role as "President David Palmer" on the hit FOX series "24," for which he received a Golden Globe Award and two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. He also starred in the series "The Unit."Haysbert recently was seen in "Men Women & Children," directed by Jason Reitman; "Dear White People"; "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For"; and the romantic comedy "Think Like a Man Too."
Additional film credits include "Life of a King," opposite Cuba Gooding Jr.; "Welcome to the Jungle"; the animated films "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" and "Wreck-it Ralph"; "LUV"; "Kung Fu Panda 2," opposite Jack Black, Angelina Jolie and Dustin Hoffman; "The Details," with Tobey Maguire and Elizabeth Banks; crime drama "Breach"; and "Jarhead," directed by Sam Mendes. Other films include "Love and Basketball," "Absolute Power," "Love Field," "Major League," "Heat," "Random Hearts," "What's Cooking," "Waiting to Exhale," "The Thirteenth Floor," "Navy Seals," "Suture" and the animated "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas." He also appeared in the critically acclaimed television series "Now and Again."
Haysbert is a third-party advocate for Allstate Insurance Co. and has appeared in commercials for the company since 2003.
Born and raised in northern California, Haysbert began acting with a television role on an episode of the Emmy Award-winning series "Lou Grant." He is active in the fight against AIDS, and was spokesperson for the Harlem Health Expo "Break the Silence," as well as for the Western Center on Law & Poverty. He has done many USO tours, most recently in Italy, Germany, Southwest Asia, Afghanistan and aboard a naval ship.
